Boards and Commissions
If you have an interest in government and making a difference within the city of Colorado Springs, you may want to consider serving on a board, commission, or committee. You can apply for a volunteer position for one of the nearly 50 boards, commissions, and committees that Colorado Springs offers. There are a wide variety of opportunities to fit all sorts of interests and passions, such as:

- Human Relations Commission
- Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

Neighborhood Cleanup
For volunteer opportunities in your own backyard, the city of Colorado Springs offers a neighborhood cleanup program. The program is run by the Code Enforcement Unit with the goals of bringing neighbors together to help care for their community, fostering neighborhood awareness, improving the appearance of city neighborhoods, and reducing crime. The neighborhood cleanup program is free and only requires neighbors to invest their time with the organizing and cleanup of the project. To nominate your neighborhood, you must submit an application and describe why your neighborhood needs the cleanup.
Public Safety
If you would like to volunteer your time in the public safety sector, the CAPS Program in Colorado Springs would be a great way to give back. The CAPS Program is a community-wide volunteer initiative that engages individuals 18 and older in a public safety program. Volunteers advance public safety by serving in a partnership with the Colorado Springs’ police and fire departments and the Pikes Peak Regional Office of Emergency Management. The CAPS program has an application online with current needs and qualifications to apply as a volunteer.
Environmental Volunteer Opportunities
There are many ways in Colorado Springs to make a difference through the environment. With 144 neighborhood and community parks, 55 regional parks and open spaces, and over 165 miles of trails, there are lots of opportunities to participate in keeping Colorado Springs clean.
- The Adopt-A-Park/Trail program encourages individuals and organizations to clean up Colorado’s beautiful land.
- Creek Week is a nine day litter and debris collection event where volunteers donate their time to clean up the Fountain Creek Watershed and raise awareness about the community’s water supply.
- To keep Colorado Springs’ walkways, bike paths, and creek corridors clean and free of litter, volunteers participate in a Trash Mob. The event is one hour where volunteers clean up spaces with significant debris to keep the city clean and beautiful.
